“Paper from paper, or magical recycling”

In fast-changing times full of complex equipment and modern technology, we try to save things that matter to our culture from oblivion. ART-PAPIER organises and runs educational workshops and demonstrations on the history of the crafts of papermaking and printing, and on ecology. The demonstrations are designed for children in the final years of kindergarten and for primary and secondary school students. We come to your school (common room, gym), so participants avoid tiring, time-consuming and costly travel; the client only needs to provide 5 tables, 15 chairs and a power outlet. The programme consists of three to five sessions, each lasting up to 45 minutes. Groups of about twenty participants work best. The workshops fit the school timetable (bells). During the sessions, participants make various items by hand and take them home as a souvenir. These demonstrations are protected by copyright.“Paper from paper, or magical recycling”During the sessions we show how new paper can be made from juice cartons and waste paper. Each meeting starts with an introduction to environmental topics. In our recycling demonstrations we use a “FRANIA” impeller washing machine. With water and stirring, we break down the waste paper brought by the participants into fibres. We pour the resulting pulp into a wooden vat, scoop it out with a mould and press it. The scooped paper can be made into decorative bookmarks. The workshops aim to show how easily we can recover cellulose, which becomes a valuable raw material for further paper production.Programme:5–10 minute talk about ecology
